Dennis Mitchell (Mason Gamble) lives in a small town with his parents. He is always bothering his neighbor George Wilson (Walter Matthau) but Mrs. Wilson (Joan Plowright) enjoys caring for young Dennis. So when Alice Mitchell (Lea Thompson) returns to work and needs a babysitter she calls on Mrs. Wilson. George is preparing a big party for his garden society friends but a burglar (Christopher Lloyd) and Dennis ruin his party. The burglar get more than he bargained for when he kidnaps Dennis. Dennis is always finding his way into and out of trouble and annoying Mr. Wilson in the process.
