In the early 1980s, David Marks (Ryan Gosling), the son of powerful real estate tycoon Sanford Marks (Frank Langella), marries a regular common girl, Katie McCarthy (Kirsten Dunst). They run away to become married and forge a peaceful life of country bless, but David is called back to the big city by his father. Over the course of time Katie disappears just as David has become abusive. David’s character is questioned as years later the case finds itself reopened by Jim (Nick Offerman) and Sharon McCarthy (Liz Stauber).
