Christine (Phoebe Cates) is a student at an all-girls school, who is in love with Jim (Matthew Modine), a student at an all-boys school. Christine's rival, Jordan (Betsy Russell), also has her eye on Jim, and will do whatever is necessary to win him over. In an attempt to get closer to the girls, Jim and his friend Bubba (Michael Zorek) dress up in drag, attempting to get to the "Promised Land," otherwise known as the girl's shower room. Christine and Jim decide to run away for the weekend, but their experience isn't quite what they expected. Will Jordan be successful in wooing Jim away, and will the boys succeed in their attempts to reach their so-called Promised Land?
