There are some decisions, once made, which we can never take back. There are tragedies in life which we can never reverse, struggle as we might. And sometimes there are dire consequences to our mistakes which we must suffer with to the end of our days. Young and carefree, Marcus (Vincent Cassel) loses himself in a moment of indulgence. In that same critical instant, a horrible fate befalls his lover Alex (Monica Belluci). Turned inside-out with guilt and wrath, Marcus and his companion Pierre set out to extract revenge amidst the seedy underbelly of Parisian nightlife. Shockingly emotive, director Gaspar Noe's vision of infinite regret and mad desperation over the loss of a loved one twists it's way through a dizzying masterpiece of sadomasochistic degradation, and poetic love.
