Sarah Morton (Charlotte Rampling) has writer's block. As a successful British novelist, she must find inspiration to finish her next book. When her publisher, John (Charles Dance) suggests she visit his vacation home in France, Sarah jumps at the chance. What she doesn't expect to see is John's daughter, Julie (Ludivine Sagnier) arrive one night claiming to have permission to stay at the house. The two women clash immediately. Sarah is put off by Julie's promiscuous nature, as Julie balks at Sarah's uptight demeanor. However, the two are about to get closer as they ever imagined as Sarah's writing becomes the center of a mysterious murder.
