Carter Webb (Adam Brody) needs a breather after he breaks up with his famous girlfriend, so he goes to care for his ill grandma. Things get complicated after he meets his grandma's neighbors, Sarah Hardwicke (Meg Ryan) and Lucy Hardwicke (Kristen Stewart). He becomes emotionally involved with the lives of these women. Sarah and Lucy are both lonely, Sarah because her relationship with her husband is lacking, and Lucy because she's trying to survive high school. Carter comes into both of their lives and makes things better for them, and in the process makes things better for himself. His broken heart caused by his girlfriend Elena (Sofia Bunuel) heals, and he becomes a better person by the end of the movie.
