Frank Falenczyk (Ben Kingsley) is a hitman for the polish Mob working for his family in Buffalo, New York. Frank has a drinking problem. When Frank screws up a very important job, his mob family is in deep trouble. His uncle Roman Krzeminski (Philip Baker Hall) sends his to San Francisco to dry out. Frank is miserable, but he does his best to follow his family’s wishes. He gets an apartment, attends AA meetings and gets a job at a mortuary. At his new job he meets Laurel (Tea Leoni). Frank meets his down fall at an Irish wake, where he gets extremely drunk and is seemingly off the bandwagon. He struggles to get back on track. Mean while his family in Buffalo is having a hard time with the mob business. Frank must stay sober long enough to return to Bufallo and help them.
