Karen Tunny (Lori Heuring) discovers after her husband dies that she has inherited his family property in the mountainous mining country of Pennsylvania. She takes daughters Sarah (Scout Taylor-Compton) and Emma (Chloe Moretz) and moves there to start over. The house is in pretty ragged condition but the family decides to make the best of things and move in despite the rumors they hear of a terrible mining accident some years ago. Apparently an explosion gone wrong buried a group of children alive in a mine near the house. Strangely enough the unfortunate kids did not die. They are still alive in a rather nasty way and they wander the dark woods seeking gore in the best tradition of cinematic zombies. These silent, dark-eyed undead children want revenge on the man who caused the accident and whose descendants still own the mountain. However the wicked little creatures have no difficulty in messily killing anyone or anything they run across.
