Anita Bergman is dying and her second husband Jim (James Murtaugh) is reluctant to make decisions about her care since he is not the biological father to her children. So he asks her adult children to step in to the role. First to respond is Emily (Julianne Nicholson) who, although used to taking on responsibility, finds she cannot handle the contradictions of her brothers who are giving orders to her about what they think is best for their mother over the phone. So she makes them all come out to help. The three brothers are all very different. Their way of coping with their dying mother causes more conflict while they are there. Keith (Ben Chaplin) provides the resource to process their grief by showing video clips he shot of his mother while she was still able to speak.
