In the small American town of Oregon, a group of young friends scheme Sam’s (Rory Culkin) birthday party as a humiliating payback trap against their school bully, George (Josh Peck), that involves a truth or dare game forcing him into stripping naked, jumping in the river, and then abandoning him so he has no choice but to run home while everyone can see. Rocky's friends Clyde (Ryan Kelley), and Marty (Scott Mechlowicz), as well as Sam’s girlfriend Millie (Carly Schroeder) tag along on the birthday adventure of boating along the local river. But their plan is soon called off when, outside of a school environment, the bully turns out to be pitiably misunderstood and desperate for friends. Nevertheless, events still go tragically wrong and the teens are forced to grow up too fast as they deal with their river trip’s ramifications.
