Grace (Diana Glenn), her partner Adam (Andy Rodoreda) and younger sister Lee (Maeve Dermody) are a happy Australian family who embark on a vacation in the mangrove swamps of Northern Australia. All goes well until they decide to try their luck with a fishing expedition on the river estuary, in waters that are known to be infested with saltwater crocodiles, the biggest and most dangerous of all. They hire Jim, a local guide, to take them fishing on a small boat. As soon as they deploy their lines the boat capsizes and Jim is killed by a large crocodile. The trio find refuge on a nearby tree, where the crocodile cannot reach them, however they have to face the fact that nobody knows of their whereabouts and therefore a rescue party is unlikely to be dispatched for quite a while. In an attempt to recover the boat Adam is attacked and killed by the crocodile, and after recovering from the shock of his death the sisters decide to try and seek help or escape by jumping from tree to tree. However as they are forced to go into the water the crocodile strikes again. First Grace is seriously wounded and then Lee is captured and left for dead near Jim’s body, wounded and unconscious but alive. After regaining consciousness she recovers Jim’s revolver and tries to lure the crocodile in an ambush. She is very nearly killed for real this time but manages to shoot the crocodile in the head, killing it. Unfortunately Grace has already died from her wounds and Lee is left to paddle back to civilization as the only surviving member of her family.
