The narrator, Michael (Freddie Prinze Jr.), a complete charmer on the outside but a con man on the inside, manages to con his way into pre-law at Columbia University. While Michael clearly looks to leave Brooklyn behind himself, his friend Carmine (Scott Caan) yearns to stay. Meanwhile, Bobby (Jerry Ferrara) just wants to live a frugal lifestyle of simply working at the Post Office to get by. Michael, busy at Columbia University, starts to fall for Ellen (Mena Suvari), a gorgeous fellow student. She seems to be won over by Michael’s prep student cover, but just as their relationship starts to grow, Carmine manages to get the attention of Caesar (Alec Baldwin), a big-time mobster that controls Michael and Bobby’s neighborhood in Brooklyn.
