The Darjeeling Limited

Three estranged brothers take a trip together in an effort to grow closer. It’s been a year since the sudden death of their father, and none of the Whitman brothers have been in contact, each quite involved with his own life. Peter’s (Adrien Brody) wife is about to give birth. Francis (Owen Wilson) had a recent brush with death after a car accident that nearly killed him. Jack’s (Jason Schwartzman) girlfriend is two-timing him and toying with him. Francis invites his brothers on a train trip aboard the Darjeeling Limited, what he hopes to be a spiritual quest through India. The brothers try to reconnect, but they just end up arguing with each other. Finally, Francis confesses that the real purpose of the trip is to visit their mother Patricia (Anjelica Huston) in a convent in the Himalayas. Peter and Jack, who do not like this idea, want to go home, but the three brothers are kicked off the train for a number of offenses, and they find themselves stranded with a lot of luggage. Unfortunate events facilitate a bond between the three and prompt them to continue to the convent and their mother.
