Shawn MacArthur (Channing Tatum) is a Southerner just trying to make it in New York City. He's struggling to make it in the big city, and one day while trying to make some money, he gets into a fight. Con man Harvey Boarden (Terrence Howard) witnesses the fight, and quickly recruits Shawn to be a part of an underground street fighting circuit. Shawn quickly finds himself fighting for respect, for money, and for the attention of the beautiful Zulay (Zulay Henao). Every fight helps bring him closer to so many of the things he has been dreaming of for so long, but is he getting himself in too deep, and is there more to this fighting circuit than meets the eye?
