When “Friends With Money” opens, Olivia (Jenifer Aniston) is a cleaning lady. Among her employers is a slob of a man, apparently unemployed. Olivia used to be a teacher in a posh school, but resigned because the students made fun of her for driving a smaller and cheaper car than any of them. What is unusual about the single and (relatively speaking) poor Olivia, is that she’s got rich friends: Franny (Joan Cusack), Christine (Catherine Keener) and Jane (Frances McDormand). All three are married, and have trivial and not so trivial marital problems. Franny introduces Olivia to her trainer. They go out on several dates, each one more humiliating for Olivia than the one before. Finally, Olivia breaks off with him. On a spur of a moment, Olivia asks the slob to accompany her to the charity do that Franny is paying for. Since Olivia has trouble saying “no”, she ends up in bed with him – but, as she is to find out, there is more to the slob than meets the eye.
