This is based on an actual story about a U. S. corporal who found a German Shepherd, Rin Tin Tin, who became famous later. A mother dog and three pups are rescued in France during World War I. The favorite puppy is kept while the others are given away; the favorite is given the name Rin Tin Tin. The dog is very active. A German named Nicholas Egger (Ben Cross) is good at dealing with dogs and is told to work with Rin Tin Tin. Egger is a POW and does not want to help at first, but then changes his mind and trains the dog gently and patiently. Rin Tin Tin eventually becomes a movie star in the 1920s.
