"Man to Man" takes place in the later part of the 19th century and centers around Jamie Dodd (Joseph Fiennes), a Scottish anthropologist. Jamie's obsession is finding the undiscovered link in the evolutionary chain that would connect man with the ape. He travels to Africa with a trapper, Elena Van de Ende (Kristin Scott Thomas) and together they capture two pygmies, a male and a female. They cage the pygmies and head back to Jame's native Scotland to present what he believes to be his scientific breakthrough to his associate anthropologists. But Jamie begins having doubts when he starts to feel a human connection to the male pygmy, Toko. Elena isn't buying it, but Jamie starts to believe these pygmies are not the missing evolutionary chain between man and ape at all, but in fact, are human beings.
