Abby Quinn (Demi Moore) and her husband Russell Quinn (Michael Biehn) are thrilled to be expecting their first child. When they take on a mysterious renter, David Bannon (Jurgen Prochnow), it seems as if they have a perfect tenant who is quite, friendly and undemanding. As Abby and David spend time together, she becomes more and more engrossed in they mystery of who he is, what he is doing in town, and why is he so interested in her baby. Strange events begin occurring all over the world and Abby begins to suspect that David. She meets Father Lucci (Peter Friedman), who also seems to be investigating David and may have some of the answers she seeks, but he is possibly more treacherous than David. The more secrets she unravels, the more she begins to believe that the world is coming to an end and she is the only one who can stop it.
