This is the fictional story of several friends who live in a house, and have their lives taped, to find out what happens when people stop being polite, and start getting real. Following college graduation from a prestigious University in Houston, Texas, a group of friends embark on careers and love lives. Among the characters are Lelaina Pierce (Winona Ryder), a journalism type who is constantly filming her friends; her on-again off again artist boyfriend Troy Dyer (Ethan Hawke); her "sleeps with anybody" best friend Vickie Miner (Janeane Garofalo) and television exec Michael Grates (Ben Stiller). The plot roughly concerns the fate of Lelaina and her documentary, but is more about the individual lives of the characters and just how much of themselves they are willing to "sell out" in order to survive and advance in their chosen professions.
